Jason Butler replied to a thread Canon Debate in Cinematography
Have you considered the Panasonic GH4? Looks considerably better as a video camera than any of the Canon DSLRs and half the price of a 5D Mk3.

    Hi Jason,
saw your thread in Fm Network, and attended the transmedia event in Filmbase earlier this week - very interesting talk. As a director, particularly interested in your detail about improvised directing on a limited budget.
I forgot to ask Triona how the various creatives under her umbrella were being paid, including yourself and Gareth: straight fee, share of profits, royalties, or simply profits from digital downloads?
    Thanks, and all the best,

Hello, I'm a sixteen year old irish teenager from Cork asking if there is any chance of getting work experience at RTE. I understand if there is not, but any help would be greatly appreciated as I have wanted to work in the Industry for as long as I can remember.

FCP is stagnating. I'm really impressed with the new direction FCPX has taken and I'm very interested to see where it ends up. I do think it's the future. But I haven't bought it.

What I have bought is the new Adobe Creative Cloud suite

What I've been up to...

by Jason Butler on 8th November 2011 at 12:26
You may have noticed I haven't been on the forum enough over the past few months mostly because I have a new full time job working on the RTE 2 TV show Republic of Telly.

I've been writing/directing/shooting/editing various sketches for the show and have posted some of them in this thread.

Just posted up a great interview with award-winning cinematographer PJ Dillon written by Ian Campbell (RGI). Over the next few days I'll be posting an article by Frank Kelly on the getting your film into festivals and one from Alec Moore on buying and kitting out a DSLR for filmmaking.

Once all three are live I'll send out the next newsletter to promote them.

Thanks to the authors of the articles and hope you enjoy reading

Waiting and hoping

by Jason Butler on 17th June 2011 at 13:06
I have a number of applications I'm waiting to hear back on at the moment. Namely a First Draft Loan, two Short Shorts, one Reality Bites and a pitch to the Fleadh comp.

Plus a couple of more film festival entries for Daylight Saving Time. Got a request from the Rio Film Festival to apply so holding out a bit more hope on that one.

Which is the problem. There's just way too much wishing and hoping and thinking and waiting in this filmmaking game, to paraphrase Burt
