Default The simpsons movie.. god never thought id say that

Is damn good. A wee bit on the short side but funny and with some nice moments , its the best thing the creators have done in years and may revive the series.
The aniation looks nice and slick, looking like the simpsons animation we know and love but for the big screen.
The nice thing bout the film is that it gives us a reason to discuss a show thats so great we take for granted.
And what a show it is....

yeah enjoyed it as much as I'd enjoy watching 3 to 4 of the better recent episodes together, strange experience on the big screen, also weird laughing at the Simpsons with so many people, the problem for me was that SPOILERS!!!!

it was stuff that we've all seen before... evironmental issues, Springfield becoming a hazardous toxic waste area, an angry mob angry at Homer, the Simpsons fleeing Springfield, Bart hating Homer's father skills, Marge leaving Homer, Lisa falling for an eco warrior and the residents of Springfield waiting on their impending doom. all done before which obviously after 400 episodes your gonna repeat yourself. I couldn't really see the point.

what I did love about the movie was Albert Brooks NAPA guy, great character, but in discussion of the show, yes it's one of the best, went pretty shabby for a while around season 12-16 but season 18 has been great, still miss the glory days of 3-8... its all been said before hasn't it? favourite characters Moe, Lenny, Gil and Skinner... oh and Johnny Tight Lips! Favourite episodes... Hank Scorpio, Frank "Grimesy" Grimes, the one where Homer bowls a perfect game and the Johnny Cash Space Coyote.

You see the great thing about the movie is it gives us a legitimate excuse to discuss a show thats so great its part of the furniture ,you sort of take it for granted. Its f**kin genius!!! So what if, someof the more recent episodes arent greats (theres still laughs there). What band, filmmaker, television show or writer doesnt go in to decline? Orson Welles did and to me simpsons is the Citizen Kane of cartoons!
As to the film replaying moments from the series, some of that was to me self-refrential .But come on it could have been teriible...
oh and i found it weird watching thew simpsons with so many people as well....

well apparently Citizen Kane isn't so good if you ask around

Yes in fairness the film could have been a lot worse, i still dont get the point of it though.

Don't you wish it finished a few years ago instead of declining so much? so we could now have a huge boxset to sit down and enjoy.

I particularly don't like how Homer's character has changed, he used to be likeable and stupid but did his best, now he's just ignorant, stupid and selfish, partiularly so in the film...

oh and The Beach Boys, Kubrick, Father Ted and I'm stuck for a writer... ****it, Dickens!

How about that noose with the pacifier on it for Maggie bit dark isn't it?

Y7eah but death put an end to Father Ted. No i dont think they should have ended it years ago and it will be a sad day when it does.
The noose was a bit dark... but i laughed. I was suprised by what they could get away with on a pg-cert.
Its a simpsons movie... thats the point.

Welles did not go into decline. Why do so many young fellas think that? Kane was far from his best film.

I doubt Welles gave a **** at that point, though. I don't think he ever did, he enjoyed life too much.

but is it in character for the people of springfield to want to hang a baby? are they sacrificing character for laughs?

and that's not a point.
