of Dundalk Town Council presents: A screening of Fritz Lang’s masterpiece Metropolis accompanied by the 3epkano ensemble 13th September at 8pm in An Táin at the Town Hall, Dundalk Tickets: €15 and €12 concession Box Office: (042) 9392919 A unique event uniting live music and a screening of the digitally remastered version of Fritz Lang’s 1927 silent masterpiece,Metropolis. 3epkano are an exciting and innovative seven piece ensemble who specialise in composing and performing original soundtracks for films from the silent movie era and have most recently appeared at the 2007 Dublin Film Festival.The ensemble includes electric guitars, percussion, keyboards, cello and viola Metropolis is set around the year 2000 (then a life time away in the future). A mammoth city is ruled by a super-efficient industrialist and appears to be a utopian dream with colossal glass and concrete spires. But underground, armies of slaves work gruelling shifts to maintain the luxurious lifestyles of their masters.Taking 16 months to film and with a cast of 37,383, everything about this German Science Fiction film, which was inspired by the towering Manhattan skyline, is gigantic. Metropolis is now a monument to Fritz Lang’s artistic vision and film craftsmanship. This version is the closest yet to the director’s original vision. |
