I'm looking to purchase a high quality digital camera in the coming month or so somewhere within the region of 2500-3000 euro.
it would be my intention next year to get busy shooting some shorts though i will be getting someone more proficent in the use of cameras to shoot the pieces as i really just want to write and direct. Hopefully sfter a few months i will pick up the neccessary skills to find my way around it myself. What makes and models should i be looking out for. Sony seem to have a great range but not being so wise with regard camera definitions i was hoping some of you guys could possibly help me out. Plus anyone with camera experience may want to put themselves forward when the time comes to shot. I hope to do two shorts in the first half of next year before attempting my first feature. Cheers.... |

I would say that if you are not going to be using it yourself think again. Even if you shot three shorts each one for five days (which would be a lot to do in a year). You still wouldn'r spend much more than that on hiring the equipment. Also you need to factor in extra batteries, a tripod, wideangle lens etc...
Why not find a likeminded cameraman who has bough the gear and team up. Or go splits with someone who might get rental on it so that it pays for itself. Ruairiob. |

If you have the money and you really want the camera, go for it. You can always start hiring yourself out to other filmmakers as well. Yes, you will need to spend more money and get other equipment, but if you want to keep shooting those shorts and you will actually use it and experiment with it, it's worthwhile.
Sorry, sound like a father there. I bought a camera a few years back and tested with it quite a lot and I'm glad that i did. |
