Default FmN.ie AGM

Planning on having a FilmmakersNetwork.ie AGM sometime in April.
Probably will be a weekday evening in a room in Filmbase (a la the Sit Ins).

Before the formal announcement, does anyone have any preference or objections to any particular dates or times?

The AGM will quickly review the achievements of the Network so far and look at improving it. All will be welcome to come along with questions, comments or suggestions.

The aim will also be to establish a voluntary committee to help run the Network, the site, the Sit Ins and some of the new initiatives we'd like to get off the ground.

The site itself will be getting a major revamp shortly and your input will be valued to help make a better FmN.ie.

Anyone got anything they'd like changed or added to FmN.ie, any initiatives you think would be good for FmN.ie and you'd like to be involved with, any issues you like to see raised at, or before the AGM, please post them below.

If at all possible could we not have it between the 10th and 18th April as I'm off on holidays then?

Please.

I wonder would a Saturday afternoon get a bigger turn out? Many of us have jobs/commitments and long distances to travel to any meet up. During the week in Dublin can be a barrier. A Saturday afternoon meeting, with a few pints of whatever afterwards could be a lot more relaxing and beneficial than midweek.

Anymore views on Saturday afternoon or a weekday night for the AGM?

Who'd like to come along?
Who'd like to be more involved in FmN.ie?

Sounds like we've got a cinematography forum moderator?

I'd like to come along, will be time and date dependent though. Given my record of non-attendance at sit-ins, etc, just hammer out the details and Ill do my best to make it and offer me two cent.

BTW I'm having difficulty posting on the thread:

http://www.filmmakersnetwork.ie/foru...ead.php?t=2572

Just wanted to offer 2 yachts. Can't let this site get into the wrong hands!

I'd be happy to do that no problem. Although id recommend two mods for every forum, that way if one of us is busy with work theres someone else there to share the workload, and it helps keep things impartial so its not just one mod imposing his pov on a particular subject. If you speak nicely to ruairi o brien im sure he might do it as well.

Hi Jason, I'd be interested in a Saturday too, it would suit me.
I'd also be interested in being a mod. Can I be the grammar moderator?

No seriously, I'm up for moderating.

And I'm nice. ;-)

A Saturday will suit me so I'll be along and would happily put myself forward as moderator for the new documentary section I'm hoping Jason might include in the revamp!

Saturday is good.

This Saturday is very good.

The one after.... not so good.

After that..... Ok, I think.

After that...... I can't plan that far in advance.

In conclusion - I like Saturdays.

Saturday would be perfect for me too. And as with everyone else has put themselves forward, if you need another mod, I do very little with my life and spend most of the week in front of a computer. It'd be nice to have an actual reason now.

I'd just like to put my 2-cents in though, on Stephen Murphy being a mod on the cinematography forum. Not that Stephen shouldn't be a mod in general, but in the same way, I would of thought that someone who is a professional writer shouldn't mod the writing forum. It's just that there is a conflict of interest there.

A mod has to basically keep the peace in a forum and tidy up spam and trolls etc. When someone who has a keen interest in a forum, as Stephen would in cinematography (sorry Stephen for continually using you as an example ), people will see a mod as an authority figure and generally take what they say as gospel. And in many other forums this has led to problems where mods go a little power crazy. An argument starts up in their forum and they start reacting harshly to those who disagree with them.

I'm not saying this is going to happen, but it is something to consider. It does happen and may become a problem in the future as the site grows. Hope I'm not insulting anyone (ie Stephen ), it's just that to mod a forum, you don't need to have experience in the topic covered in the forum, you just need have the cop on to know when people are acting out of line and to keep it clean.

That's just my opinion, anyway Sorry for the ramble.

Stephen Murphy going power crazy? Can't wait...

I'd actually like the mods to have an interest and experience in the area. They're more likely to post news items and be of more value.

Well, obviously the decision is up to you, but there's nothing stopping people from posting news items etc. They don't need to be mods of a particular forum to do it. Now, maybe you've got other plans for what mods do. I've just been on other forums where there have been conflicts of interest with some mods and it can get unintentionally messy.

[grovelling]Oh, and Stephen, I really, really want to stress that I'm not having a go at you or saying you shouldn't be a mod. You're just the best example I can come up with here [/grovelling]
